Vanessa Lucas

Writer, Producer & Director

In her own words, she’s a wildlife and documentary filmmaker for a living, and for fun! Conservation is her passion and wanderlust is her driving force. By pairing her creative streak with her university education in ecotourism and conservation, Vanessa has established herself as a writer, producer and director. She produces documentary programming for National Geographic, Discovery Channel, BBC, Smithsonian and other international broadcasters.

In 2011, Vanessa started Natural History Media, allowing her to travel more extensively than ever in her search for new locations, people and wildlife stories. Natural History Media provides documentary and wildlife filmmaking, as well as fixer and location consulting services in Africa. In 2014, Vanessa embraced the role of Creative Director, alongside Hayley, at the helm of The Safari Media Co.

Hayley de Marigny

Offline Editor, Director & Graphic Designer

After school, Hayley enrolled and graduated from the University of Cape Town with a BA Film & Media Degree. With a few years of media experience under her belt, she left for Asia. Here she was able to travel and expand her horizons. Although she enjoyed this time of her life, one thing became clear… she belonged in Africa. Hayley soon returned home to pursue her passion for working with African wildlife and traveling the continent she loved most. Her only challenge was finding a way to use her creative media skills so that she could work within the wildlife and conservation industry.

Hayley started with a predator research programme bordering the Kruger National Park. From there, she went on to study and graduate from the Wildlife Film Academy. Thereafter, she was offered a wildlife filmmaking position to direct, produce and edit a high-profile TV series. Relocating to the Eastern Cape, she spent the next three years deeply involved in wildlife conservation and rehabilitation, documenting it all in the process.

Today, Hayley is credited for documentaries airing on National Geographic, Animal Planet, Al Jazeera and several Australian broadcasters. She’s also branched out from filmmaking to hone her skills as an editor and designer, producing branded content and captivating trade videos for The Safari Media Co’s diverse clientele.
